GSU Girevoy Sport Union

GSU ranking tiers from highest to lowest: MSIC (Master of Sport International Class), MS (Master of Sport), CMS (Candidate for Master of Sport), R1 (Rank 1), R2 (Rank 2), R3 (Rank 3). Six ranks total, following the traditional Girevoy Sport ranking system used by IUKL-affiliated organizations.

IUKL International Union of Kettlebell Lifting

IUKL uses its own unique ranking terminology with three tiers, each having three levels. From highest to lowest: Distinguished Professional (Gold breastplate, honorary), Deserved Professional (Gold breastplate, honorary), Professional I / I-PROFI (equivalent to MSIC — Master of Sport International Class, Red breastplate), Professional II / II-PROFI (equivalent to MS — Master of Sport, Red breastplate), Professional III / III-PROFI (equivalent to CMS — Candidate Master of Sport, Red breastplate), Amateur I / I-AMAT (equivalent to Rank 1, Green breastplate), Amateur II / II-AMAT (equivalent to Rank 2, Green breastplate), Amateur III / III-AMAT (equivalent to Rank 3, Green breastplate), Youth I / I-YOUTH (equivalent to Junior 1J, Yellow breastplate), Youth II / II-YOUTH (equivalent to Junior 2J, Yellow breastplate), Youth III / III-YOUTH (equivalent to Junior 3J, Yellow breastplate).

Comparison Analysis

All organizations use a tiered ranking system but the tier names and number of levels differ significantly. IUKL/WKSF/GSU use the traditional R3-MSIC system. IKLF uses unique tier names (Rank through Elite). IKMF uses MSWC instead of MSIC.

What All Organizations Agree On

  • All organizations use a progressive ranking system based on competition performance
  • Higher ranks require heavier kettlebells and more repetitions

Athlete Impact: Rankings earned under one organization are generally not transferable. An IUKL CMS is not automatically recognized by WKSF or IKO. Athletes competing across federations need to earn ranks separately under each system.
