Tiebreaker by Bodyweight

Compared across 5 organizations. Registration & Weigh-In category.

Rule Text by Organization

GSU Girevoy Sport Union

If two or more athletes achieve identical results (same rep count or biathlon points), the athlete with the lighter body weight wins.

IKMF International Kettlebell Marathon Federation

If two athletes in the same category have an identical result, the advantage is given to the one with the lower body weight. In league format, the athlete's heaviest weight category during the competition year is used for the final score.

IKO International Kettlebell Organization

If 2 athletes of the same category have an identical result, the one with the smallest body weight wins.

IKSFA International Kettlebell Sport & Fitness Academy

If two athletes in the same division and weight class achieve an identical score, the athlete with the lower bodyweight at weigh-in wins.

IUKL International Union of Kettlebell Lifting

If 2 or more athletes achieve identical results, advantage goes first to the competitor with the smaller body weight before performance, then to the competitor with the smaller body weight after performance, and finally by drawing lots.

Comparison Analysis

When athletes tie on repetitions, lighter bodyweight wins in most organizations. This is a universal principle across kettlebell sport.

Tiebreaker order

Most orgs: lighter bodyweight wins first, then heavier KB weight. IKLF: heavier KB wins first, then lighter bodyweight.

What All Organizations Agree On

  • All organizations use bodyweight as a tiebreaker criterion
  • Making weight just under the class limit is always advantageous

Athlete Impact: In all organizations, weighing in closer to the bottom of your weight class gives you a tiebreaker advantage. Under IKLF, using a heavier KB is the primary tiebreaker instead.
